01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

At Takohiko, takoyaki comes with more options than the usual sauce: you can also choose soy sauce, salt, ponzu or dashi. Ordering different flavours makes it easy to compare them. One pair of diners shared portions of sauce, salt and soy sauce, and reported that the amount was just right to leave them feeling full. Other customers ordered in batches of 6 or 12, a flexible approach for choosing flavours to suit the group. One diner found the ponzu refreshing even with mayonnaise on top, and also mentioned adding chilli oil. It’s an option if you’d like something different from the richer, sauce-coated version.

Another customer described the takoyaki as crisp on the outside and slightly soft inside. The centres are hot, so one tip is to pierce each ball and let the steam escape before eating. A diner also mentioned asking for theirs to be cooked firmer, so it may be worth asking if you have a preference.

Alongside the takoyaki, the kasu-yaki—made with oil-kasu, or fried beef offcuts—also made an impression on one customer. Another paired sauce-flavoured takoyaki with beer. Beer and other alcoholic drinks are available if you’d like to linger over your meal. Customers have also taken tako-sen and takoyaki away, so you can settle in at the shop or enjoy them on the go.
